Melba Crampton, 59, of Milan, IL (formerly of Coal Valley) passed away Friday, August 15, 2008 at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline, IL. Born Melba Kelley January 8, 1949 in Harrison, AR to parents Kenneth and Gertrude (Roberts) Kelley, she was raised with a faith that stayed with her, her whole life. From early years working in rehab to "being there" in times of need for family and friends, Melba was a simple woman who found her riches in the caring for others. This compassion extended to the animals in her life, be it family pets or the neighborhood stray. Taught by her mother, Melba shared a love of cooking good meals for the family and took comfort and pride in keeping a tidy, orderly home where she enjoyed the welcoming feel of the country crafts that adorned her walls. Her love and appreciation for family and friends showed no bounds and she was fiercely proud and protective of her sons and a champion of all their accomplishments great or small. Melba will be missed by sons, John Crampton of Bradenton, FL, Joshua Crampton of MA; her father, Kenneth Kelley of Coal Valley; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Milton DeShane of Moline; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sherry Kelley of East Moline; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, but Melba has moved on to join her mother, sister and brother-in-law Sue and Delmar Neal and is patient for the time when we see her again. In lieu of a memorial, the family asks you to take your loved ones out for the evening in remembrance of her spirit and "have dinner with Melba". Funeral services for Melba will be 10:30AM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Glennwood Cemetery, Colona Township, IL.
