Obituary

Funeral services for Michael Joseph Bert, 62, of Hampton, IL, will be 10:30AM Friday at St. Johns Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30. Mr. Bert died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at his home, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial fund has been established. Mike was born April 3, 1947 in Moline, IL, the son of Joseph and Vera (Walker) Bert. He married Phyllis Yeatts December 14, 1964 in Moline, IL. He retired from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, in 2004 after 38 years of service. Mike loved to fish and had fished all over the United States. He had been a member of the John Deere Harvester Bass Club, Twin Rivers Bass Club, and the Illinois B.A.S.S. Federation. He had been a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Bert of Hampton; sons and daughters-in-law, Micheal and Samantha Bert of Havelock, NC, Steven and Michelle Bert of Cypress, TX, John and Cheryl Bert of Racine, WI; grandchildren, Tim, Tiffany, Dylan, Madison, Ashley, and Taylor; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Rick Johnson of Geneseo, IL, Pat and Mike Callow of Moline, Cindy and Phil Sperry of Bonner Springs , KS , Carol and Stephen Darby of Flower Mound, TX ; brothers and sister-in-law, Tom and Debbie Bert of Moline, Dan Bert of Tucson, AZ; He is preceded in death by his parents.
