Funeral services for Michael C. Churchill, 85, Rock Island, formerly of Hampton and Moline, are 10 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-6 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mike died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Trinity Regional Health Systems, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, Coal Valley. He was born May 22, 1924 in East Moline, the son of John J. and Edith Koeldhoeffer Churchill. He graduated from UTHS in 1942. He had worked at the former Fairbanks Morse and at AMATEK and at John Deere Harvester where he retired in 1985. He married Dorothy Huberts on October 9, 1948 in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mike loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles tinkering with things and most of all telling stories. Mike served as a Deacon at the New Hope Baptist Church, Coal Valley. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, children and spouses: David and Vicki Churchill, Moline, Richard and Linda Churchill, Hampton, Jeffery Churchill, Moline and Linda and Waymon Sherrell, Colona, nine grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. The family would like to thank the staff at the Fort Armstrong, Trinity Hospice and Heartland Hospice especially Tiffany and Sunni for their wonderful care.
