Funeral services for Michael S. Churuvia, 92, East Moline, are 10 Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 4PM. Mike died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Genesis Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Church or to the Illini Hospital Foundation. Michael was born August 15, 1917 to Steven and Pearl (Ligino) Churuvia. He married Margaret Van Meighem on June 1, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and Christ the King Church, Moline. He was a member of the Gunderson Foundation of LaCrosse, WI and the Futuristic Society of Genesis Illini Hospital Foundation, Silvis. Mr. Churuvia worked as a foreman for John Deere Harvester for 38 years. He and his wife Margaret owned Churuvia Florist in East Moline for 25 years. He was well known for his gardening, tree planting and grafting. In fact he invented a machine for tree grafting. He enjoyed planting large lilies and trees in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, brother Nick Churuvia sisters Stella Falkenburg, Sadie Tomich and Mildred DeLeu, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Churuvia and Walter Zegarec and a sister Sophie Nahrgang.
