Funeral services for Michael James Hamilton, 28, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Geneseo, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mike died Tuesday October 14, 2014, in Lexington. Mike was born November 6, 1985, in Geneseo, the son of Jerry and Patricia Kernan Hamilton. He married Heather McGriff June 3, 2013, in Lexington. Mike was a musician, with a passion for guitar, whether it was playing, teaching, repairing or building them, he was a natural craftsman. Mike surrounded himself with music. He had taught guitar at West Music, Moline, IL, before moving to Lexington. He currently taught at Lexington Music Education and Musikgarten of Lexington. He was a mentor to his students. He cared for them both as an instructor and as a person. Mike was a people person, warm and caring with a quick wit. He had been a volunteer for the Geneseo Fire Department for 6 years. Survivors include his wife, Heather Hamilton, Lexington; parents, Jerry and Patricia Hamilton, Geneseo; brother, Jerry D. Hamilton II, Unionville, MO; grandmother, Wilma "Billie" Kernan, Aledo; and his dogs, Wolfgang and Gigi. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and brother, R.J. Hamilton.
