Michael Duane "Mick" Dergo, 81, of East Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at his home.
Graveside memorial services with military honors will be 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, those wishing to attend are to meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday Van Hoe Funeral Home, 1500 Sixth St., East Moline. A memorial visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, at Van Hoe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Michael was born December 1, 1941 to Michael and Evelyn Dergo. He graduated from United Township High School, Class of 1959. He later received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Western Illinois University.
Michael was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a teacher, basketball, track, softball, baseball and golf coach for more than 30 years primarily at UTHS and many Quad Cities High Schools, Savanna and East Aurora. He was a skilled basketball and baseball player and gymnast in his earlier years. He loved coaching and teaching his players and students and was an avid "Elvis" fan.
Surviving are his son, Michael J. Dergo, Yorktown Township, IL and step-sons Brock Strang and Jack Moore and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Bradley Michael Williams; and brother, Gehrig Dergo.
