Michael Thorman, born July 11, 1961, in Davenport, Iowa, was the son of Donald and Beverly (Schmahl) Thorman. He was one of three children and the only son, growing up alongside his two sisters. As a young teenager, Michael frequented Kimberly Pine Skating rink where he developed into an advanced skater competing locally. His passion for skating and dedication to the rink led him to later become part of the management team, a role that reflected both his commitment and strong sense of responsibility. Michael graduated from Davenport West High School in 1979.

In 1983, Michael welcomed his one and only daughter, Michelle, whom he lovingly called Shelly. Being a father was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he shared a special bond with his daughter that remained close and meaningful.

In 1985, he settled in San Antonio, Texas where he developed an appreciation for the rich history, diverse culture and cuisine. He embraced the local lifestyle and especially enjoyed true country dancing, including the Texas Two Step, which reflected his love for music.

Michael enjoyed college football for its strong sense of tradition, community and the excitement of supporting local teams. He was a devoted fan of the Texas Longhorns and continued to follow the team even after moving back to the Quad Cities in 2008.

Michael had an excitement for competition and was an avid racing fan. He had a love for dirt track racing. He especially enjoyed following the careers of the drivers as they developed their skills and pursued their dreams. Michael encouraged many young drivers at the peak of their careers to show his support and enthusiasm for the sport. Some of his favorite local drivers were Gary Webb, Milo and Logan Veloz, the Gonzalez's, Jeff Walker and many others. In the early 2000's, Michael raced in and around the San Antonio area and modeled his race car after his favorite driver, Benny Hofer's #50.

He met his wife Julie on November 17, 2019 and they later married on April 17, 2021, in Davenport, Iowa. They enjoyed going to the East Moline Speedway and the Davenport Speedway where Michael worked out on the track reporting driver activity. They also enjoyed spending time at drive-in movies, traveling, and vacationing together. Their journeys took them to Grand Junction, Colorado; Fayetteville, Arkansas; and most recently St. Louis, Missouri. While traveling, if close to Chicago they would stop at Midway Airport to watch the planes take off and land—one of their simple joys shared together.

He recently retired and worked full time at Murray's, where he proudly served as warehouse manager, earning the respect of coworkers through his dedication and strong work ethic. Deeply committed to serving his community, he volunteered with the A1 Firecrew and the Moline Second Alarmers. In this vital support role, he helped ensure firefighter safety by running hoses, replacing air tanks, maintaining equipment, and keeping crews hydrated while on the scene. His service reflected a strong belief in teamwork, training, and community support.

He was also a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service, having completed certification classes in the Quad Cities area. Known to many as a passionate storm chaser, he used his knowledge to help keep others informed and safe during severe weather events.

Michael was known for his nurturing and caring nature. He was appreciated for his kindness, gentle spirit, and willingness to support others whenever he could. Michael's life was marked by the meaningful relationships he formed along the way. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him and whose lives he touched.

Surviving are his wife, Juliana, Colona; daughter, Michelle (George) Holderness, of Davenport; stepchildren, Marcus (Whitney) McCash, Arkansas; Keeley (Michael) Hoffman, Galva; Anthony (Corine) McCash, Davenport; Justin McCash, Moline; Payton McCash, Arkansas; and Blayke (Ashley) Axnix, Colona; grandchildren, Eric Holderness, Theodore and Ethan Hoffman, Parker, Aiden and Owen McCash, Collins and Kane Oliva, Ayla Butler, and two on the way; sister, Kelli Rogers, East Moline, and Renee Young (Bill Bouchard), Alpha; niece, Clarissa Young, Alpha; and nephew, Dustin (Amber) Rogers, East Moline.
