Michaele (Mike) Holmes, 73 , of Colona, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, at her home. Per her wishes, cremation and private burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorial services are 11 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Interment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 9AM until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Homewood Evangelical Free AWANA, or Child Arise programs. Michaele was born January 26, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Myron L. and LaVaughn Miles Mayer. She married Dennis A. Holmes on June 14, 1983. They raised each others 6 teens together. She said love and laughter was the blessing all those children brought to her life; Danielle Orton, Nicole (Art) Fallon, Lori Holmes, Christine (Michael) Fishel, Denise (Jeff) Key, Doug (Carrie) Holmes; 14 Grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and an adopted brother, Fernando "Ferdi" Herrera. She worked in factories from age 17 until 1983 retiring from John Deere Plow and Planter as a welder. She stated in 1993 "a wretch like me was saved by the amazing grace I found in Jesus Christ." For many years she had been involved with Homewood Evangelical Free Church and enjoyed working with toddlers and serving in AWANA and Bible study. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 16:11. She enjoyed family, sewing, making folk art clothes pin people and studying the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. She also loved Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was preceded in death by LaVaughn Anderson (mom), Cliff Anderson (stepfather), Danielle Orton (daughter) and Myron R. Mayer (brother). A special thank you to Dr. Stewart Garneau and staff, and to all friends and family. The prayers meant so much to her!
