Milton J. Willcox, 92, East Moline, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 11 AM Wednesday at 1st Presbyterian Church, East Moline. Entombment is in Greenview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church, East Moline. Milton was born August 11, 1919 in Welcome, MN, the son of Roy and Edith (Chesley) Willcox. His family moved to Ames, Iowa when Milt was 5 where he attended grade school, high school and graduated from Iowa State University. Mr. Willcox served in the US Army as 1st Lieutenant during WWII, with 5 years in the South Pacific. He spent 2 years with the Coast Artillery in Guam. He married Maxyne Carpenter on June 12, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Milt was a devout member of 1st Presbyterian church and served his church faithfully. Never wanting to boast of his achievements, his accomplishments in life were deserving of recognition, from receiving Hall of Fame status for Ames High School to the love he had for God and Country. Milt was a loving and giving grandfather, who enjoyed the many family gatherings in the family home. Milton retired in 1962 as Area Manager of Engineering Sales from Link Belt of FMC Corporation. He fondly carried the nickname of "Smiley". Milton volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Maxyne, children (spouses); Milton (Lisa) Willcox Jr., East Moline and Melinda (Jim) Cewe, Port Byron, grandchildren; Malachi (Amy) Willcox, Samuel (Stephanie) Willcox, John (Anita) Willcox, Stephen (Ashley-Nicole) Willcox, Daniel (Deanna) Willcox, Micah (Trina) Cewe, Brian (Shannon) Cewe, Tobiah Cewe, Dana Cewe, Erik Cewe and Olivia Cewe, ten great grandchildren, and his sister Evelyn Hershey, Metairie, LA.
