Nancy S. Thornton, 75, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Fort Armstrong, Rock Island.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at New Life Baptist Church, Davenport.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.  Van Hoe Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Nancy was born on December 30, 1949, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Harvey  Roy Tessman and Roselinda Dueweke.  Nancy was a social butterfly and animal lover. She often shared stories about her beloved family, friends, and her companion for many years, her dog Honey who she loved dearly. She loved to spend time with her friends daily, and she would share her stories over a cup of tea. Nancy's mother was an immigrant from Austria, and she settled in Lansing, Michigan, where Nancy was born. Nancy married at 18 and moved around the country with her family before settling in the Quad Cities area of Illinois/Iowa. Given her social personality and love for all things girly or fancy, she often worked retail jobs. In the last position, she worked as a jewelry counter representative, which fostered her love for anything sparkly and beautiful. Nancy loved cooking and making recipes her own. She has a few recipes that have now turned into family heirlooms for her children.  Her faith was important to her, and she enjoyed reading about the birth of Christ. She attended church at New Life Baptist Church with her friends. Nancy also loved writing. She would often write in journals and send cards and letters to friends and family. Her letters were easily recognizable by the beautifully crafted envelopes she sent them in. Nancy was passionate about being a part of the resident council at the Fort Armstrong where she lived at the time of her of her death. She will be loved and missed by all who were all a part of her life.

Nancy is survived by her children, Gene (Leslie) Peltier, Pinetop, AZ, Danielle (Gene) Moore, Tonto Basin, AZ, Christopher (Jennifer) Peltier, Fort Huachuca, AZ, Tiffany (Gary) Floyd, Hull, GA, Karrie (Chad) DeRudder, Rock Island, IL, Jason Peltier, Sterling, IL, Nicole (David) Ringier, Orion, IL, Bruce (Michelle) Peltier, Tampico, IL, Brad-Lee (Katie) Peltier, Richmond Hill, GA; grandchildren, Cody Peltier, Cole Peltier, Cory (Maddie) Peltier, Clayton Peltier, Kristen Peltier, Samantha Peltier, Jennah (Jeffery) Cody, Lilyana DeRudder, Gavin DeRudder, Jakob Ringier, Shaw Ringier, Ian Ringier, Brayden Peltier, Katelynn Peltier, Lyla Peltier, Liam Peltier, Connor Peltier, Chloe Peltier, Cadence Peltier; great grandchildren, Everett and Elodie Peltier and Waylen Cody.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Roselinda Dueweke and Harvey Roy Tessman and her fifth born child Jeremy Adam Peltier.
