Funeral services for Norman E. Proesch, 81, Silvis, formerly of Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Entombment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Proesch died peacefully Saturday, January 26, 2008, surrounded by his family at home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the University of Minnesota Research for Fanconi Anemia in honor of his great granddaughters, Bella and Maci Massa . Mr. Proesch was born January 3, 1927 in Cedar County, IA, the son of Ernest "Pete" and Laverna (Lueth) Proesch. He married Jeanette Johnson July 4, 1948 in Lowden, IA. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from what is now the University of Iowa, and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Norm had been a Funeral Director and had worked for several of the local funeral homes. He had also been a Real Estate Broker working for Lohman Brothers Real Estate for nearly 20 years. He had been a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Lions Club, Moose Club, and the Eagles Club. In his younger days he had taught ballroom dancing. He enjoyed fishing and boating. He loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of nearly 60 years, Jeanette Proesch of Silvis, daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Bert Rios of Silvis, Denise and Larry Blackwood of Colona, IL, Michele Malone of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren, Paul Rios, Melissa Ledezma, Toni Massa, Jennifer Rios, Paul Malone, Mark Malone, Todd Malone; 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter, Hailey Malone, son-in-law, George R. Malone Jr, aunt, Normie Reynolds.
