Funeral services for Odell W. Hill, 90, East Moline, are 10 AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, where he was a member. Mr. Hill died Monday, May 21, 2007 in his home. Odell was born November 20, 1916 in Calhoun, OK, the son of Walter and Lona (Byrd) Hill. He married Alice Van den Berghe on June 28, 1941 in East Moline. He worked at John Deere Spreader Works before departing with the US Navy in WWII. He served on an LST at Normandy on D-Day and then was stationed on a minesweeper in the Sea of China. Odell worked part time at Sable's Jewelry for over 25 years as a watchmaker and gemologist. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a supervisor of Fire Control. Survivors include his wife of 65 years Alice, children and spouses; Kathleen Roberson, Rolla, MO, Patricia and Lawrence Fetter, Stillwater, MN, Thomas and Gail Hill, Bartlett, IL, Gerald and Joyce Hill, East Moline, Richard and Peggy Hill, East Moline, ten grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Ola Sue Rainwater, Van Buren AR.
