Funeral services for Dr. Paul H. Jacobsen, 83, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Monday at the First Christian Church, East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Dr. Jacobsen died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, IA. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to First Christian Church Food Pantry. Dr. Jacobsen was born April 11, 1925 in Oak Park, IL, the son of Walter and Sarah (Averitt) Jacobsen. He served as a Bomber Pilot in the US Air Force during WWII. While living in the Chicago area he drove a taxi and had an orchestra to help pay for his education. He received his Doctorate in 1952 from the Chicago College of Optometry. He married Inez Ardis May 24, 1958 in Oak Park. After moving to the Quad Cities he started Jacobsen Eye Care. He had been very active in the community. He served as the East Moline Police and Fire Commissioner for 27 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Inez Jacobsen of East Moline; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Paula Jacobsen and Dr. Michael Hoerres of Hillsdale, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Denise Jacobsen of Orion, IL; grandchildren, Amanda and Rebecca Hoerres, Evan and Sarah Jacobsen; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and V.R.
