Pedro D. "Pete" Ortiz, Jr, 94, East Moline, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Aspen Rehab and Health, Silvis. Funeral services are 1 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where MAVA will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday (Today) at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Pete was born on January 15, 1921 in El Paso, TX, the son of Pedro and Rosanda (Delgado) Ortiz Sr. He married Suzanna Gomez on June 13, 1949 in Fr. Madison, IA. He served as a Armed Guard in the US Navy during WWII. He had worked as a body man at the former Warren Chevrolet, East Moline and Reynolds Ford. Mr. Ortiz retired in 1981 from the former International Harvester. He was a member of St. Anne Parish. He was a life member of the VFW 8890. Pete was a self taught musician, and played the drums with local and traveling bands. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Suzanna, children, Patricia (Gregory) Ramirez, Colona, David Ortiz, Rock Island and Michael Ortiz, Galesburg, IL, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a great-great grand son He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Mary Martinez, Hope Martinez, Ceta Lopez, Frank Ortiz, and Esther Guzman, and his daughter Nancy Rose. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and CNA's for their exceptional care.
