He was born June 30, 1939, in Adelaide, South Australia, the son of Jack and Marjorie Olsen Mitchell. Peter started his long work-life as a candy salesman, along with his twin brother, Bruce, at the tender age of eleven. They sold candies at four different theaters across Adelaide. He continued the trend of working with his brothers by working as a commercial deep-sea fisherman with Phillip and then as a tradesman boat-builder with Arthur. He then worked with his friend Tony as a shipwright in the Adelaide shipyards. He was able to take his savings and hitchhike around the world. He eventually went on to work in the Alaskan oil rigs and continued to tour the United States. He enrolled as a student at Palmer College as he was passing through the Quad Cities, where he also married Patricia Paasch in 1969. He graduated in 1971, and began a thriving chiropractic practice in Adelaide, South Australia. After nine years in practice, he made the decision to move back to the United States and set up practices in LeClaire, IA, and East Moline, IL. In 1981, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States, and a proud one at that. He met the love of his life, Victoria Showers in 1994. He continued the Mitchell Chiropractic Clinic in East Moline until his retirement in 2013. His biggest dream as a retiree was to move to the sunny beaches of Florida, and it was there where he was heading when he collapsed in Marion, IL. Peter had many hobbies throughout the years, but he was notable as an avid car collector, who loved to show his cars. He was also involved with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, as he never gave up his love of boats and water. He loved to scuba dive and had scuba-dived in three different oceans. Dr. Mitchell was most devoted to Rotary Club and had been a Paul Harris Fellow. He had recently received an award for 45 years of perfect attendance. He also received Rotarian of the year in 2005. Peter also was a selfless humanitarian and donated over 18 gallons of blood.
