Philip J. "Phil" Gomez, 48, of Bettendorf, IA, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Our beloved husband, father, and son was called home to be with the Lord. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 2:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00PM. Memorials may be made to his family. Phil was born October 22, 1964 in Moline, IL, the son of James and Colleen Martin Gomez. He was a graduate of Illinois State University. He married Rachel Nuanez April 21, 1993 in Hawaii. He had worked as an Insurance Adjuster for many years and most recently as a Consultant with Altus, Bettendorf. Phil was a man of integrity, a seeker, always looking for a new challenge. He treasured his friends and loved his family most of all. He taught his children many things, most of all how to be strong. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Gomez of Bettendorf; children, Rachel D. and James J. Gomez at home; parents, James and Colleen Gomez, Hampton; sister, Julie (Eric) Webster, WA; brother, Joe (Heather) Gomez, Moline; nieces and nephew, Quentin, Sam, Mallory Gomez and L.J. Nuanez.
