Obituary

Phillip S. Hutton, 72, Moline, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 10 AM Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 2-6PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a rosary recited at 1:30 PM. Additional visitation is 9 AM until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Church, the Alzheimer's Association or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Phil was born on February 9, 1942 in Moline, the son of Ralph and Mary Jane (Lee) Hutton. He married Mary Susan Berger on May 16, 1964 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Phil served in the US Air Force. He retired as a customer service representative from United Airlines after 35 years with the company. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf and flying. Phil was the original Pete the Panther at United Township High School, East Moline. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sue, children (spouses), Jennifer Hutton, Moline, Michael (Melissa) Hutton, Coal Valley, Amy (Guy) Newberry, Port Byron, and Bridget (Thomas) Cobert, Kingsville, TX, eight grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 3 step great grandchildren, his sister, Eileen (Gust) Makedon, Watson, LA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Phil's home caregivers, Kim VandeVelde, Gary Hammonds, Carin Tompkins and the entire staff at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
