Funeral services for R. Dean Stephenson, 80, East Moline, are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post 246 will conduct Military Honors. Mr. Stephenson died Saturday May 5, 2007 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Moline American Legion. Ralph Dean Stephenson was born May 4, 1927 in Moline, the son of Ralph Leonard and Zelah Marie (Baff) Stephenson. He graduated from East Moline High School and entered into the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He attended Putnam Jr. College and Augustana College. Dean married Nancy Franklin on October 13, 1951 at the Watertown Baptist Church, East Moline. She died December 30, 1986. He retired in 1982 from John Deere Harvester Works as a senior buyer after 35 years with the company. Dean was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church; East Moline and attended Christ United Methodist Church. He was a member and Past Commander of the Moline American Legion, the Experimental Aircraft Association, AARP, Moline Svithiod Club and the Moline Viking Club; He was Past Chef DeGarre of the Rock Island County Voiture 40 & 8, past president of the R.I. Chapter SPEBSQSA and Past Commander of QC Search and Rescue Squadron C.A.P. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law; Lori and CWO3 Jeff Grasz, USMC, Oceanside, CA, Ann and Roger Cheffer, East Moline, and Leslie and Richard Rohret, Greer, SC, grandchildren Jeremy, Elizabeth, Melody and Stephen Grasz, Robert and Joel Cheffer, and Andrew and Kelli Rohret, sister and brother-in-law Lana and Don Morse, East Moline, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Carol and Paul Batty, Michigan and John Seabloom, East Moline, many nieces and nephews, and his special friend and companion Lona Ralston, Hampton. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by sisters Patricia Seabloom and Chloe Kildow a brother Gale Stephenson and his parents.
