Funeral services for Ralph A VanDeCasteele, 76, East Moline, are 10 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 4PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church or the American Cancer Society. Ralph died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center-East, Davenport. Ralph was born July 8, 1931 in Moline, the son of Rene and Mary Maere VanDeCasteele. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Moline in 1949. He married JoAnne Johnson on November 3, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Ralph had worked at Eagle Signal for 2 years prior to employment at John Deere Spreader works where he worked until 1970. In 1970 he transferred to John Deere Harvester Works where he retired as a Tool and Die Maker in 1987. Ralph served as East Moline Alderman from 1969-1989, was on the East Moline Youth Guidance Counsel from 1962-68 and the UTHS Vocational Steering Committee from 1965-1985. Ralph was a member of the Elks, Vikings, and the Ex-Servicemen's Club all of Moline and the East Moline American Legion. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 56 years JoAnne, sisters Joyce (Ray) Ullmark, Moline, and Joan Mullikin, Stockton, CA and a brother Raymond (Bev) VanDeCasteele, Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marian Plavak and brothers Francis, Robert and Louis.
