Obituary

Raymond R. Alonzo, 91, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at home. Funeral services are 9 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, where MAVA will conduct military honors. Visitation is 3-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Ray was born May 27, 1927 in Silvis, the son of Jesus and Jobita (Ramirez) Alonzo. He married Teresa Castel Oct. 5,1957 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1999. Ray graduated from East Moline HS in 1945 where he received varsity letters in football, basketball & track. Ray served in The US Army during WWII. He retired from John Deere in 1985 after 35yrs. Ray belonged to many organizations and was a active member in the Silvis & Quad Cities community. Ray was especially proud of his work as a charter member and long serving post commander of VFW Post 8890, the founder of Los Amigos Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps and Our Lady Of Guadalupe Father Pro Club. Ray was also a sports enthusiast attending many sporting events but mostly United Township sports & activities. He also loved watching his beloved Heartland Havoc softball teams but especially The "LiL Hearts & Heartbreakers. Survivors include his children; John (Lisa) Alonzo, Silvis, Tim (Wendi) Alonzo, Carbon Cliff and Mary (Larry) Bautista, Silvis, 7 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Children and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter, and his sister Pat Guinn Louisville, Ky. In addition to his beloved wife Teresa, he was preceded in death by his parents & a brother Russell Sierra.
