Raymond "Pete" Fontenoy, 80, of East Moline, passed away Friday February 16, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Friday February 23, 2024 at Van Hoe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to Rock Island Humane Society.
Pete was born on June 18, 1943 in Rock Island, the son of Raymond and Alice (Langston) Fontenoy. He married Bonnie (Greer) Thomas on August 14, 1999 in Moline. Pete was a United States Army Veteran.
Mr. Fontenoy had been employed at the former International Harvester for 32 years until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, Ocala, Florida.
Pete was a amazing, kind, warm, generous man, who was always willing to help anyone. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and in his earlier years, competitive archery. In 1982, Pete got second place in the PAA National Archery Tournament. Pete was known as Mr. Pete by all the neighborhood kids, he was always willing to fix anything for them and teach them about nature. Pete was a blessing to all.
Pete and Bonnie spent many wonderful years wintering at their home in Florida. While there they made many great friends and were involved in several activities, especially golfing.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie; step sons, Steve (Pam) Thomas; Tim Thomas; step grandchildren, Robbie, Janna and Lance; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lyn (John) Minder; brother, Tom Fontenoy; several nieces and his cat, Izzy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends.
