Memorial services for Richard A. "Dick" Batten, 87, of Moline, IL, will be 2:00PM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Mr. Batten died January 13, 2015 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Dick was born October 6, 1927 in Moline, the son of Eddie and Mae Gustus Batten. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he was stationed in the Philippines. He married Julia Ames February 20, 1954 at First Methodist Church, East Moline. He retired from Dimock & Gould also known as the Wholesale Distributing Company. Dick was an accomplished cabinet maker. He enjoyed woodworking and was always making things for others. Survivors include his wife, Julia Batten, Moline; sons, Bruce (Christine) Batten, Silvis, IL, and Bradley (Merrilee) Batten, Batavia, IL; grandchildren, Lara J. and Ryan M. Batten; sisters, Phyllis Metz, East Moline and Carol Fleischman, Wichita, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Animal Aid Humane Society, Moline, IL.
