Obituary

Richard "Chippy" Chipman, 74, Milan, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Chippy was born September 19, 1938 in Keosauqua, IA, the son of Ira and Nina (Hankins) Chipman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Chipman retired in 1995 as a Mechanic from John Deere Harvester Experimental. He married Sandy Peterson on June 27, 1959 at Salem Lutheran, Moline. Chippy loved people and life, he was quick with a joke and was always smiling. He was passionate about the game of Rolle Bolle and belonged to the Friends Circle, East End, Hand in Hand, Rock Island Boulders, Annawan Boulders, Atkinson Boulders, Geneseo Moose and the Ex-Servicemen's Club. He also enjoyed NASCAR. Survivors include his wife Sandra, children, Christine Chipman-Allen, Leesburg, FL, and Curtis (Deborah) Chipman, Milan, IL, four grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a sister Rosalie Milan, Mission, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Francis Whitcanack.
