Richard C. "Dick" Cooney, 77, Hampton, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Genesis East, Davenport. Private committal will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. There will be no public services.

Dick was born June 12, 1940 in Columbus, NE, the son of Carroll and Doloris (Thrun) Cooney. He graduated from Davenport High School Class of 1958. He married Charlotte Jones in 1961 and they had three children. He later married Nancy Asman in 1986. He joined the US Air Force, which spawned his obsession with aviation. Dick's life was devoted to his country through his work with Lockheed International and Northrop Corporation. His work was to oversee the development, testing and evaluating of the most advanced and sophisticated Electronic Countermeasure Systems of Fighter Planes.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, daughters, Dawn Cooney, Addison, IL and Danielle (Tom) Fusher, Lehi, UT, Nancy's children, Laura (David Henson), Salt Lake City, UT, Edward Asman, Davenport and David Asman, Shellsburg, IA, seven grandchildren and his brother Robert (Donna) Cooney, Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Shawn.
