Funeral services for Richard Lee "Dick" De Smet, 78, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-600 PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. DeSmet died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Dick was born December 22, 1933 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Frank and Mary Maddlen De Smet. He served in the US Army Airborne, where he was stationed in Germany. He married Betty Stottlemyre-Larson January 22, 1960 in Rock Island. He had worked for the Rock Island Lines and retired from International Harvester, East Moline in 1991. Richard enjoyed bowling and traveling with his wife to to national and international tournaments. He also enjoyed golfing in the John Deere League with his buddies, Ken, Gene, Ray, and Jim. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty De Smet, Moline; son, Gary Larson, East Moline; granddaughters, Kelli (Richard) Jenkins, Erie, IL and Renae (Jay) Scherschel, Hampton, IL; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert De Smet, East Moline and Ronald (Theresa) De Smet, East Moline; halfsister, Nancy (Hershel) Scott, WI; halfbrothers, Paul (Marcia) De Smet and Gary (Amy) De Smet both of IN.
