Funeral services for Richard M. DeLaere, 61, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Entombment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. DeLaere died Monday, March 30, 2009 at his home after being diagnosed with A.L.S (Lou Gehrig 's Disease.) In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family. Richard was born September 18, 1947 in Moline, IL, the son of Albert and Ella May (Pisman) DeLaere. He married Lynn Gramenz June 25, 1977 in Silvis, IL. He was a graduate of UTHS class of 1965 and attended Bismark Jr. College where he had received a basketball scholarship. He served in the US Army Reserves between 1970 and 1974. He retired in 2007 as Police Captain of the East Moline Police Department, after 30 years of service. He loved playing and coaching softball. He had been a respected pitching coach in our area. He had coached for Heartland Hustle A.S.A. where they placed 4th in the A.S.A. National Tournament. He also coached the 1996 Firebirds A.S.A Team to an undefeated state title. He was a member of Illinois Police Association, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Police Benevolent Society. Rich was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was more than just a coach to his many players and students. Survivors include his wife, Lynn DeLaere of Silvis; daughters, Kristin (Sean) O'Reilly of East Moline, Sara DeLaere (Leslie Hickenbottom)of Davenport, IA; son, Craig (Lindsay) DeLaere of East Moline; grandchildren, Sean, Natalie, and Kyle O'Reilly, Jessica, Alex, and Lucas DeLaere, Antonio Soliz; mother, Ella May Winger of Silvis; sisters, Dawn (Jerry) Daugherty of East Moline, Dinah (Dave) Leibovitz of Silvis; brother, Alan (Debbie) DeLaere of East Moline; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Duane Gramenz of Moline; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Daryn Arnold of Reynolds, IL.
