IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Dick"
Whitney
January 25, 2026
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard. P. “Dick” Whitney, 87, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 30, 2026, at Our Lady of Grace Parish at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 9:00-10:15 AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 10:15 AM. Mr. Whitney passed away peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Dick was born July 28, 1938, in Moline, IL, the son of Earl and Margaret (Bahmler) Whitney. He married Eileen “Chee Chee” Van Hoe February 3, 1962 at St. Anne Catholic Church. She passed away March 31, 2022.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Throughout his career, Dick was a dedicated employee at McLauglin Body Company, Riverside Products Inc., and Cargill. Even in retirement, he was never one to sit idle; a true embodiment of ‘Mr. Fix-It,’ he could master any task he set his mind to, and many relied on him for his expertise. To know Dick was to expect the unexpected. He was a lifelong prankster who delighted in keeping his friends and family on their toes with his quick wit and mischievous spirit. When he wasn’t plotting his next joke or tinkering on a project, he was likely finding peace in the great outdoors. Over the years, boating and camping were his favorite escapes.
Survivors include his children, Pamela (Jack) Jones, Morrison, IL, and Scott Whitney, East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Chad (Jenelle) Havill, LeClaire, IA, Joseph (Allison) Brewer, Morrison, IL, Daniel (Chasitty) Brewer, Summerville, SC, Whitney (Dustin) Hess, East Moline, IL, Dustin (Kayla) Jones, Panama City, FL, Taylor (Ben) Prescott, Woodstock, IL, Jeff (Kelsie) Whitney, Reynolds, IL, James Whitney, Cordova, IL; 21 great grandchildren; brother, David (Brenda) Whitney, Silvis, IL, sister, Mary Kay Joyce, Hillsboro, MO; sister’s-in-law, Linda Whitney, Maynardville, TN and Carole Van Hoe, East Moline, IL; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mark Whitney and Marcia Bradley.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
