Richard Arthur Jensen, 67, of Colona, IL, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at home. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., 1500 Sixth Street, East Moline. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal Island, IL. Richard was born on February 16, 1947 in Davenport, IA, the son of Arthur Benjamin and Ella Mae Maass Jensen. He was married to Martha Westfall, October 11, 1969. Richard was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War Era. He attended Davenport West High School and graduated from Scott Community College with an Associates Degree in Diesel Mechanics and also with a Certificate in HVAC. He had many other certificates. Was a very accomplished mechanic and repair person. Richard was very active in getting donations and equipment for the Automotive and Diesel Departments of Scott Community College and was on their advisory board for several years. Richard was active in the transportation department of Davenport Shriners' driving families to Chicago, IL and back to the Children's Hospital for free care until the decline of his health. He found great satisfaction in helping people in this manner. Richard worked at J.I. Case, Bettendorf, Iowa until the close of that plant in 1989, then after they bought out the International Harvester Plant in East Moline, IL. He was transferred there until his retirement in 2002. He later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for about 3 and a half years and then retired. Richard enjoyed working in his garage. Other hobbies included his fish tanks he loved doing. He had a 40 gal., a 75 gal., and a 200 gallon. He liked making them pretty and then watching the fish. He had a variety of different fish types over the years. Richard enjoyed watching History and Discovery channels on TV and was a Huge John Wayne fan. He enjoyed mowing on his rider and watching his trees grow. Survivors include his wife Martha; children, Julie Jensen of East Moline; Kenneth (Jennifer) Jensen of Colona, IL; Becky (Shawn) Chaffee of Moline, IL; and Anndrea Jensen of Colona, grandchildren include Anndrea Jensen of Colona, Frances Jensen of Colona, Guston Kuria of East Moline and Hailey and Ty Chaffee of Moline, IL and many nieces, nephews and several cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gary L. Jensen and two half brothers, Richard A. and Kenneth R. Jensen. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
