Richard Lee Raiche, 86, East Moline, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hope Creek, East Moline, with family by his side. Funeral services are 1PM Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport with the Very Rev. John Horn officiating. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Richard Lee Raiche was born in Iowa City, IA April 17,1929. He graduated from Central High school in Davenport, IA in 1947. He was employed by Oscar Mayer in Davenport IA from 1948-1949 as a laborer. He began working for the Rock Island Lines Railroad at the Silvis railroad yard as a teletype clerk on October 22, 1950. After 30 years of employment by the railroad, Mr. Raiche retired on March 31,1981. Mr. Raiche was hired by the City of East Moline, IL on June 1, 1981 as their Animal Control Officer. In 1994 after 13 years of service to the city of East Moline Mr. Raiche retired. Mr. Raiche attended Trinity Episcopal Cathedral as a child in the 1930в??s and through adulthood until St. Marks Episcopal church was established in Silvis, IL. He married Marie "Mary" Patricia Gargano on January 14, 1950. She preceded in death after 60 years of marriage on August 6, 2010. Mr. Raiche was a member of the East Moline Pigeon Flying Club and the Rock Falls Pigeon Flying Club. Mr. Raiche began raising and racing Homing Pigeons in 1942 and continued to race his birds until the age of 81. He won multiple trophies over the course of 68 years. He was also a union member of AFSCME. Richard was a member of the East Moline Police Benevolent. His hobbies were hunting and attending United Township High School basketball games of which he held season tickets for 40 years. He traveled to major cities yearly for the annual Pigeon Flyers Conventions held around the country and gave considerably to multiple charities. He is survived by his daughter Dyan Avanti, Grand-Daughter Jessica Douglas (Marshall Douglas II) and Great-Grand-Daughter Savanna Douglas. The family wishes to thank Hospice Compasses and Hope Creek for their exceptional care and compassion. Richard's daughter would like to express deep gratitude from the bottom of her heart for treating her father like family.
