Richard A. "Rick" VanderBeke, 53, Sherrard, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to First Step with Hemophilia of Iowa or to OSF St. Francis Hospital Pediatric Cardiac Department, Peoria. Richard was born September 25, 1957 in Moline, the son of Donald and Judith (Brenstrom) VanderBeke. He married Vickie Kitt on May 12, 2001 in Sherrard. He had worked as a mortgage officer at 1st Midwest Bank. Rick enjoyed fishing and sports in general. He loved traveling with his wife, and while in Jamaica, he became a certified scuba diver. Rick had many fond memories of his Canadian fishing trips with his father and his grandfather. Survivors include his wife Vickie, stepson Nathan (Lisa Redman) Kitt, Milan, grandson Hunter Kitt, his mother and stepfather; Judith and Larry Wogomon, Moline, stepsister; Victoria Wogomon-Fitzgerald, nephew Lance and great niece Rory. He is preceded in death by his father Donald, and grandparents; Albric and Marguerite VanderBeke, Dwight Brenstrom and Clyda Wren.
