Obituary

Richard R. "Dick" Strandgard, 84, Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services are 11 AM Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post 246 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Richard was born March 12, 1930 in Moline, the son of Alex and Irene (Quick) Strandgard. He married Marian D. VanderBeke on June 1, 1962 in Rapids City, IL. He served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a supervisor from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline on November 1, 1984. He had enjoyed bike riding, canoeing, bowling and was a Chicago Cubs Fan. In more recent years he had become quite the cook. Survivors include his wife Marian, children (spouses), Marty (Mary) DeVault, Erie, IL, Diana Strandgard, Camanche, IA, Deborah (Scott) Raes, Moline, and Alan (Linda) Strandgard, Battle Creek, MI, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, siblings, Alex (Harriet) Strandgard, Coal Valley, Jon (Gail) Strandgard, Port Byron, Alfred (Bette) Strandgard, Grant, FL, Cheryl (Bob) Mathis, Augusta, Michigan and Marilyn Pennington, Overland, KS and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Martha Hanna, Barb Zesiger and Betty Truitt and grandson Michael Raes.
