Funeral services for Robert E. Beardsley, 80, Moline, are 9 AM Friday at Church of Christ, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A memorial fund has been established. Mr. Beardsley died Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home. Bob was born July 18, 1924 in Moline, the son of William and Leona (Nitzel) Beardsley. He served in the US Army Engineer Corp, and fought at the battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He married Carol Dawson, December 1, 1962 in Payson, IL. He worked as a Production Controller at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Moline and enjoyed photography, woodworking and bird watching. Survivors include his wife Carol, daughter and son-in-law Judy and Larry Dodds, Bettendorf, sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Sherry Beardsley, Rock Island and Donald and Sally Beardsley, Apache Junction, AZ, seven grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a stepbrother Tom Beardsley, Bettendorf.
