Bob graduated from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Social Work and Sociology. After working one and a half years at Annie Wittenmyer Home and at Iowa DCFS he decided to work with his hands and leave a legacy after he was gone. He began an apprenticeship with R.E. Kerns & Sons. Some of the general contractors he worked for were Windmiller Design & Development, Gary Hodge, Inc., and Aspen Homes. Bob accomplished two things that were important to him. First, he and his daughter Lindsay, worked to transform her house into a beautiful home for her and his granddaughter. Secondly, he trained his son Jason to do trim carpentry and now he is also a master craftsman running his own business doing trim carpentry. Bob enjoyed all types of music especially the Beatles and he often said " you can never have enough guitars". Other interests were camping, biking, hiking, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, and doing things with the same group of friends for over 40 years.
