Obituary

Robert David Hauman passed away Friday, May 12, 2017. Bob showed true determination and strength throughout his entire extended illness. Even with his passing he taught his entire family valuable lessons - fight hard for every day, never wait for your dreams - go get them, and love unconditionally. Robert "Bob" Hauman was born May 31, 1945 to Albert and Mary (Pollard) Hauman. Bob grew up in Green Rock, IL with his parents and his sister Carol (Hauman) VanGoethem. Bob married Betty Jane Nicewanner on May 28, 1966. The couple had two children named Brad and Brandy. As a young family, they enjoyed traveling all over the country, but especially loved their time in Florida. Bob began his work career at eighteen as a dock worker for John Deere. Right away John Deere realized what an asset he was. Bob retired at age forty-eight as Operations Manager of John Deere Distribution Center. It was then that he began farming for DeBaillie Brothers which he continued to do seventeen years. He loved his time alongside his fellow friends and farmers. He valued their friendship very much over the years. During his retirement years Bob, along with Betty, most enjoyed spending time traveling. Once the couple arrived in Florida they met up with their friends immediately. Bob and the "pier gang" spent their days on the pier swapping "fish" stories and fishing. Other hobbies included being one of the first members of the British Auto Club - showing his 1960 Morris Minor and MGA, golf, fishing, and horses. Bob and Betty enjoyed taking fishing trips with Brad, Laurie (Lydon) Hauman, Hunter, and Tanner. There was always fun and adventure to be found in these trips. The stories that have been told will bring a smile to anyone that hears them whether it is about the whopper fish supposedly caught or the great "slipper" incident, they always had a great time. Bob never missed an event for his grandkids. Whether it was football, wrestling, soccer, FFA, or baseball. He always showed up with a lawn chair in one hand, a smile, and a cooler full of Pepsi. Grandpa (Bob) was always their biggest fan. The grandchildren (in age order) are Travis Hauman, Hunter Hauman, Cheyenne Stockton, and Tanner Hauman. The great grandchildren are Emmett Labelle, Adelyn Hauman, Everly Hauman, and Nora Hauman. Bob also really enjoyed traditions. One of his favorite traditions was the "World Series of Drag Racing". Duke Stockton (spouse of Brandy), Bob, and Travis had attended the world series race every year for twenty-three years straight. Cheyenne joined in as soon as she was old enough. Showing what a strong and determined man he was, Bob went to the drag races just three weeks after losing a leg in a farming accident. So many great memories were made at that drag strip. On Sundays, you were sure to catch Bob on the golf course right alongside his grandson Travis. The pair went to several courses and golfed almost every weekend together. A time Travis cherished very much. Bob is survived by his wife Betty (Nicewanner) Hauman, son Brad Hauman, and daughter in law Laurie (Lydon) Hauman, grandson Hunter Hauman, great granddaughters Adelyn and Nora, grandson Tanner Hauman, daughter Brandy (Hauman) Stockton, son in law Duke Stockton, grandson Travis Hauman, future granddaughter in law Katie Labelle, great grandson Emmett, great granddaughter Everly, and granddaughter Cheyenne Stockton. Also, Bobby and Barb Nicewanner, his sister Carol (Hauman) Van Goethem, and brother in law Ray VanGoethem. It was Bob's wishes to be cremated. A visitation and celebration of life will be held so that friends and family can share all the wonderful stories that celebrate Robert (Bob) David Hauman and the life he led. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Garneau and his staff for their excellent care and compassion.
