Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Johnson, 82, of Rock Island, IL, will be 10:00 am Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be immediately following at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30 pm. Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at his home. Bob was born August 6, 1936, in Peoria , IL, the son of George "Bud" and Bernice "Bea" Sweetnam Johnson. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-58 as a Radar Operator. He married Judy Fordham January 9, 1965 in Peoria. He received his undergraduate degree from Bradley University, Peoria, and his masters degree from Illinois State University, Bloomington, IL. His master's thesis was instrumental in establishing the law enforcement program at Illinois State University. He worked as a Police Officer in Peoria for 10 years before moving to the Quad City area. He became the Director of the Law Enforcement program at Black Hawk College, Moline, IL. He was one of three Police Officers who received the Medal of Valor for service to the Black Hawk College Community. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golf, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed mentoring students, and having a friendly golfing rivalry with his twin brother, Jim. He was blessed to be married to his best friend of 54 years, and they enjoyed reminiscing about their time in Massachusetts and their time spent traveling along the east coast. Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Sue (Larry) Reichard, Hilliard, OH, Pamela (John) Griffith, Colona, IL, Michael (Christine) Johnson, Moline, Holly (John) Lowe, Cordova, IL; grandchildren, Brandon Reichard, Nicholas (Lindsay) Reichard, Stephen (Natalie) Griffith, Zachary Griffith, Maria Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Matthew (Brooke) Johnson, T.J. (Erin) Lowe, and Matthew Lowe; great grandchildren, Rosie Jane, Cooper, Jocelyn, and Eli; sister-in-law, Lu Johnson, Peoria; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Patti Johnson; siblings, Joan Purcell, James Johnson, and William Johnson; special aunt, Lucille Johnson. Memorials may be made to the family for a Scholarship to Law Enforcement Students at Black Hawk College. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
