Robert J. "Bob" VandeWiele, 80, Silvis, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at his home. Funeral services are 7PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline. Visitation is from 4PM until service time. Memorials may be made to the UTHS Booster Club. Bob was born on September 30, 1936 in Moline, the son of Alberic and Mary (Martens) VandeWiele. He married Ruth Ann Donelson on December 31, 1955 in East Moline. She died July 8, 2016. He retired in 1999 as a General Supervisor Experimental for John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline after 44 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Colona. Bob was a member of the Exchange Club, served many years on the Rock Island County Fair Board, was president and coached Silvis Little League and was a Boy Scout leader. He served on UTHS School Board, volunteered for the Belgian Cultural Center, was an alderman in Silvis and was known to play Santa Claus for Bowlesburg School. Survivors include his children, The Honorable Mark (Terri) VandeWiele, East Moline, Nancy Schneider, East Moline, and Sue (Ron) VanWatermeulen, Silvis; grandchildren, Jandie (David) Westbrook, Janelle (Garrett) King, Jamie VanWatermeulen, Jennifer VanWatermeulen, Mitchell Schneider, Jared Schneider, Courtney (David) Brickner, Alison VandeWiele, and Jacob VandeWiele; great grandchildren, Annzlee and Brynlee Westbrook, Ellie and David Robert Brickner, and James King, and brothers, John (Barb) VandeWiele, Port Byron and Jerry (Jeanne) VandeWiele, Colona.
