Obituary

Robert M. Butcher, 90, of Silvis, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at Allure of the QC.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Visitation will be 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Private committal services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the East Moline Police Association or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Robert was born in Ventnor City, NJ, on May 16th, 1935, the son of Mark and Teresa (Petinga) Butcher. He spent the early part of his life in Florida where he graduated from Edison High School, attended Florida State University, and joined the US Navy. He married Donna Belk in 1962 and moved to the QC area. They had 3 boys. Bob was employed by the East Moline Police Dept. until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, he was employed by Johannes Bus Service as a bus driver for the Moline/Coal Valley School District. The kids on his bus called him "Bob the bus driver". In 1975, he married Sandra (Knight) Rangel and were blessed with 50 years of marriage. Sandra had 2 children at the time. Bob was a man of faith and an active member of his church Good Shepherd Presbyterian, Rock Island. He was involved in activities with the church and sang in the choir. Bob's passion was baseball. His favorite team was the NY Yankees but he also enjoyed coaching and watching different sports. He loved coaching baseball, basketball, and women's softball. During his life he enjoyed bowling, going to the casino, traveling, being involved in his community, and watching his son Mike play in the MLB.

Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra Butcher, Silvis; sons, Scott (Marie) Butcher, East Moline, Michael (Tami) Butcher, Chandler, AZ, and Brent Butcher, Erie, IL; step-daughter, Christine (Dave) DeCrane, Coal Valley; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Julia Butcher; and step-son Ronnie Rangel.
