Obituary

Robert "Tim" Wayne Canny, 83, of East Moline, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Cremation rites were held per the family's wishes. Tim, as he was known to friends and family, was born January 26, 1939 in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Charles Rufus Canny and Myrtle Margarette (Mooney) Canny. They instilled in him a good work ethic that he carried on throughout his entire life. He married Catherine Cline on February 2, 1964 in Kirksville, MO.

Tim was kicked out of 10th grade, and went on to work for City Package Delivery and Hallbaker Gumball Company. He joined the Air Force in 1957 and was discharged in 1960. He then went to work for Davy Moen working on the Dam, Sea Wall and water intake. During this time, Tim was one of the creators of the legendary "Sammy the Sea Serpent" in Ottumwa, IA. The story was so big at the time that there were news stories printed in the Associated Press, Stars and Stripes, and even a paper in Germany.

In 1961, he went back to high school and graduated in 1964. While going to school he worked at Carter's Nightclub as a doorman and bartender. He and his wife, Catherine, then moved to East Moline. He started working for International Harvester in East Moline in 1964 and later retired in 1994. In 1981, Tim opened Tim's Satellite. He joined the Pyrotechnics Guild International in 1993, attending conventions for over 20 years, where he taught classes on Italian shells and Chinese Ball shells. He was also a proud member of the Iowa Pyrotechnics Association.

Tim is survived by his wife, Cathy Canny; son, Roger (Angie) Canny; grandson, Ryan (Amber) Canny; granddaughter, Tiffany (Alex) Pliakos; great-grandchildsons, Rayce Canny and Vinny Pliakos; great-granddaughter, Annabelle Canny; sister, Linda Hucks, Davenport, IA; nieces, Lori (Wayne) Mills, Rockton, IL, and Debbie (Randy) Fish, Le Claire, IA and numerous other nieces and nephews.
