ROBERT E. CLARK Robert E. Clark, 84, of Lehigh Acres, FL, formerly of East Moline, IL, passed away on March 21, 2011, at Hope Hospice, Lehigh Acres, FL. He was born December 19, 1926, in Delta, IA, the son of the late George and Esther Clark. He attended schools in East Moline, IL graduating from United Township High School in 1948. In 1943, during WW II, Bob left high school to enlist in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to U.T.H.S. where he met his future wife, Darlene Ballegeer. They were married on February 3, 1951, at St. Anne Catholic Church, in East Moline. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He worked at John Deere Plow Works, Moline, IL, for 36 years, retiring in 1984. During retirement he and Darlene diligently pursued a travel agenda...covering all 50 states and 39 countries. His U.S., Canada and Mexico travels were primarily made by towing an Airstream trailer, He was past president of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International(WBCCI) Everglades Unit, and was also a member of the Caravan International Club while caravaning through 22 European countries shortly after retirement. In 1989, he and his wife Darlene moved to North Ft. Myers, FL, and later Lehigh Acres, FL. He enjoyed his travels, golf, cruising, and playing cards...mainly Bridge. He was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Lehigh Acres, and the Lehigh Acres Senior Center. He was devoted to his family and thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Darlene; a daughter, Diane St. John (Ronald) of Lehigh Acres, FL; a son, Steven Clark (Kimberley) of Moline, IL; four grandchildren, Russell St. John of Apache Junction, AZ and Ryan St. John of Belmont, NC, Emma Vellenga Clark and William Vellenga Clark of Moline, IL and five great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Kaestner of Silvis, IL, and brothers James Clark of San Diego, CA and Avery (Gene) Clark, of Pink Hill, NC, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George Clark, Ronald Clark and Jerry Clark and sisters, Helen Clark Scavarda and JoAnne Clark Baker. Visitation will be at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline, IL on March 24, 2011 from 4 to 7 PM where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline on March 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM. On line tributes and condolences may be posted at www.vanhoe.com.
