Funeral services for Robert K. "Bob" Glaudel, 89, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00 am Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Glaudel died Tuesday September 6, 2016, at Genesis, Silvis. Bob was born March 21, 1927, in Davenport, IA, the son of Roy and Louise DeSmet Glaudel. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, being stationed in the Pacific Theatre. Bob especially loved sharing stories about his time on a LST landing ship. In May of 1947, he came home from the war and married Marilyn Ikerd. She died December 18, 2011. He worked 44 years at Desaulniers Printing Company where he started in the offset department. After years of hard work and dedication, he became plant superintendent and later purchasing manager, retiring in 1991. One of his most memorable assignments was traveling to Japan with his wife and management team. While there he participated in the decision process to select two web presses for the company. Deciding he was not quite ready to retire completely, Bob became a consultant for Silver Oaks in Moline where he worked for 10 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and traveling with Marilyn. Perhaps his biggest joy came on November 8, 2012, when he joined other Veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Sharing memories with other veterans and visiting the various monuments was a special time that he cherished forever. Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Linda McGraw, Rock Island, IL; son-in-law, Dan Hirstein, Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Hughes, Colona, IL, Christopher (Katie) McGraw, Normal, IL, Kate (Brian) Frank, Marion, IL, and Kimberley (Nick) Lesniak, Orland Park, IL; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Brian Hughes, Joseph, Jameson, Madeline, and Matthew McGraw, Ava and Cole Frank, Audrey, Elle, and Olivia Lesniak. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sandy Hirstein; and brother, LeRoy Glaudel. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Moline where Bob was a member.
