"Lank" Gorzney
September 16, 1921 – September 15, 2016
Robert Stanley "Lank" Gorzney, 94.9 (one day short of his 95th Birthday), of Silvis, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home, holding hands with his bride of exactly 60 years to the day, and with his daughters Gina and Loretta at his side. Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moine, with a rosary recited at 3:30 PM. He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery, with the East Moline American Legion Post 227 conducting military honors. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care and Control. Robert was born on September 16, 1921 in Union Grove, IL, the son of Stanley and Mabel (Hickey) Gorzney. He graduated from Erie High School. After High School, he was a Navy Seabee stationed in the South Pacific. After the Navy, he was a carpenter by trade. He married Doris J. Versluis on September 15, 1956 in Rapids City, IL. He was proud of the house he built for his family to live in for the past 49 years. He was a maintenance worker for the East Moline School District, retiring in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Doris, four daughters; Teresa (Greg) Doyle, Harrisburg, PA, Gina (Juan) Escontrias, Silvis, Karen (Glen) Sepulvado, Cleveland, TX and Loretta (David) Arruda, Davenport, IA. His grandchildren; Evan Doyle, Colin Doyle, Kyle Escontrias, Anita Willcox, Alec Lance, Nicole Cravens, and Holly Cravens. He, also had 5 great grandchildren that he dearly loved. Sisters-in-law, Ann Versluis, Rock Island, and Pat Gorzney, Arkansas, many nieces and nephews and his true friend, Bill DeCastecker. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He was an avid sports fan. He loved NASCAR, and the sounds of the races this summer relaxed him tremendously. He was a football, basketball and baseball fan, also. The family requests, if you choose, to wear your favorite team attire. He truly enjoyed watching the Brewers and the Cubs, this year. He wasn't a true Cub fan, but he was astonished at what he was witnessing. He had a deep love for his grand-dogs. They will surely miss him, also.
