Graveside services for Robert " Bob" Joseph Mierzwa, 98, of East Moline, IL, will be 9 am Monday March 5, 2018 at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend should be at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, by 8:30 am. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Mr. Mierzwa died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home. Robert was born December 6, 1919, in Chicago, IL, the son of Peter and Mary Mierzwa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, during WWII, seeing action in Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, and the occupation of Japan. He married Thelma Cecilia Halter April 11, 1942, in Chicago. Robert was a tool and die maker at McCormick Place, Chicago. He retired February 28, 1982, after 44 years from International Harvester, East Moline, as the Tool Room Manager. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an expert rifleman. He served on the board at IH Mississippi Credit Union for 42 years. Survivors include his wife, Thelma; daughter Marilyn Alling, Upton MA; son, Ronald Mierzwa Milan, IL; five grand children, Dennis Mierzwa, Milan,IL; Jennifer(Rick) Corder, Moline; Matthew Mierzwa, Rock Island,IL, Allison (Michael) Finocchi, Plainville MA; Christopher Alling, Upton, MA; three great grandchildren, Kyle Mierzwa, Journey Mierzwa, and Jameson Finocchi. Besides his parents, his sister, Irene Ortinau and his brother, Norbert Mierzwa precede him.
