Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Moreno, 76, of Allen, TX, formerly of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Interment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-6:00PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30PM. Mr. Moreno died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Medical Center of McKinney, McKinney, TX. Bob was born October 16, 1937, in Moline, IL, the son of Anthony and Gabriela Terronez Moreno Sr. He married Lydia Ramirez June 9, 1962, in Davenport, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy. He had worked at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, Montgomery Elevator, and retired from Kone, McKinney, in 2010. Bob was a strong community activist and committed to the youth. He was the founder of Silvis Junior Football program and coached several youth sports throughout his lifetime. He served his community in public office through being elected as a Rock Island County Board Member and Committee Precinct Member during the 1980s and 90s. During that same period he was involved in many voter registration projects including the Midwest Hispanic Voter Registration Project and the Rock Island County Get Out and Vote Project. He was also involved with many committees to assist Hispanics become United States citizens and to recruit Hispanics to run for public office at all levels. For many of the projects and committees he worked on, Robert collaborated with his lifelong friend and colleague Eva Savala who shared the motto "It is not enough to have a seat at the table of decisions, we demand to be part of all decisions, it's the American Way!" During his years in Texas he continued his involvement with the City of Allen where he was on the Board of Adjustments, Building and Standards Commission and was selected to attend Chamber of Commerce Leadership class. He was a lifelong avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears fan. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lydia Moreno, Silvis; daughters, Anna Moreno, Silvis, and Debbie (Jorge) Sosa, Yuma, AZ; son, Victor Moreno, Silvis; grandchildren, Nicolas, Adrian, Marisa, Mimi, Julian, and Mia; mother, Gabriela Moreno, Silvis; sister, Carmen Sanchez, Silvis; sister-in-law, Margaret Moreno, Silvis; Blanca Castillo, Silvis; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, infant brother, Carlos Moreno, and brother, Anthony Moreno Jr. Memorials may be made to the family.
