Funeral services for Robert P. Pauwels, 86, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00PM Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Tuesday (today) at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00PM. Mr. Pauwels died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or to Trinity Pathway Hospice. Robert was born March 8, 1923 in Moline, the son of Achiel and Maria (DePoorter) Pauwels. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He married Mary Louise Loussaert November 30, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. She died November 1, 1994. Robert had owned and operated Independent Service Company in Moline and East Moline. He later retired from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, where he retired in 1982.He had been a member of the Vikings Club and the Moline American Legion Post 246. He enjoyed dancing and woodcarving. He could be found at the Donut Delight in Moline every morning drinking coffee with the "coffee shop gang." Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Jane Pauwels of MI, Teresa and Jerry Massa of Milan, IL; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Jacquelyn Pauwels of Colona, IL, James and Kitty Pauwels of East Moline, Gerald and Chris Pauwels of Silvis, IL, Thomas Pauwels of Moline; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Meersman of Greeley, CO, Marian Mitchell of Moline, Joanne and Dean Jacquin of East Moline; sister-in-law, Rose Pauwels of Moline; special friend, Buda Larson of Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Julia Nicholson, brother, George Pauwels, 2 infant twin brothers, and daughter-in-law, Mary Pauwels.
