Obituary

Funeral services for Robert Lee Rumph, 76, East Moline, are 11 AM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial is at Hampton Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Rumph died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. A memorial fund has been established. Robert was born September 14, 1931 in Mercer Mo, the son of Lloyd and Emma (Dykes) Rumph. He married Jennie Hutchins on March 17, 1950 in Stanbury, MO. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict receiving the Purple Heart. Robert had farmed in his early years. He along with his father and brother ran a machine shop in California for several years before he eventually moved to the Quad Cities and worked as a machine setup man at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, retiring in 1991. He and his wife attended Silvis Heights Baptist Church. He was past commander of the American Legion in Mercer, MO. He and his wife had enjoyed travelling and camping at Camp Hauberg. Robert enjoyed time spent with his family. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jennie, children and spouses; Robert Steven and Sandra K. Rumph, Moline, Penny and Ray Guyton, East Moline and Marcia Manning, Moline, grandchildren; Shelley K. and Kevin S. Rumph, Craig Guyton, Bridget Lindsey and Jennifer Manning, a great grandson Noah Lindsey-Nyquist, a sister Lorene Sanders, Palmdale, CA and a brother J.D. Rumph, Moreno Valley, CA and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 stepmothers, an infant brother Lawrence and a sister Pauline Smith.
