Obituary

Robert Bernard Slusarski, 85, East Moline, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Heartland Health Care, Moline. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Inurnment will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday (today) at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4PM. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Iowa. Robert "Bob" was born May 20, 1927 in Piotrkow, Poland, the son of Walenty and Kazimiera Maria (Oledzka) Slusarski. He immigrated to the United States August 14, 1950. He married Caryl Makeever on April 21, 1956 in Galesburg, IL. She died on September 12, 1997. He had worked for Admiral Manufacturing in Galesburg. The family moved to the Quad Cities. Bob worked for John Deere as an Overseas Market Economist. After retiring from John Deere he went to work for the Rock Island Arsenal. Mr. Slusarski served his new country during the Korean Conflict. He was a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he trained new recruits and took part in several search and rescue missions. Bob spoke over 7 languages. He often helped local businesses and organizations as an interpreter, welcoming Ambassadors, Dignitaries, and travelers to the Quad Cities. He had served as a Scout Master at St. Anne's School, East Moline. Survivors include his children, Robert (Becky) Slusarski, Sanger, TX, Andy (Cindy) Slusarski, Eldridge, IA, Tim (Florence) Slusarski, Denton, TX, and Judy Barton, Cameron, NC; grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Michael, Kathryn, Kade, and Cameron; many close friends and neighbors.
