Obituary

Funeral services for Robert E. Zabloudil, 83, Moline, are 10:00 am Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 2-5 pm Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. Mr. Zabloudil died Thursday July 27, 2006 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis after a short but courageous battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Robert was born April 25, 1923 in Burlington, IA, the son of James Frank and Adolphina Zabloudil.He graduated from East Moline High School in 1941. He married Lillian Louise Janoski in 1946; she preceded him in death in 1952. He married Lois Ann Ullman in 1953; she preceded him in death in 2005. Robert served in the United States Army in WWII. He took part in the Tunisian, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, North Appennines, Po Valley and southern France campaigns. He was a telephone and telegraph lineman with a heavy construction battalion. For his service to our country, he received the Meritorious Unit Award, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal with Silver and Bronze Battle Stars, Overseas Service Stripes, Service Stripe and Good Conduct Medal. Robert worked at Eagles Warehouse, Service Ice Company, R.E.A. Express, Fifth Avenue Furniture, and Montgomery/Kone from which he retired in 1986. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Ann and (Gus) Flores, Houston, TX, Teresa Zabloudil, Moline, Mary Zabloudil, Moline, and Karen Zabloudil, Moline, sons and daughters-in-law Robert and (Laurie) Zabloudil, Gahanna OH, John Zabloudil, Coal Valley, IL, Anthony and (Kathleen) Zabloudil, Edmond, OK, and Ernest Zabloudil, Atlanta, GA, eighteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Willman, Overland Park, KS and Ada DeWit, Cedar Rapids, IA and brother Adolph, Ainsworth, IA.
