Obituary

Roberto "Bob" Alaniz, 80, of East Moline, passed away Friday February 1, 2019, peacefully at his home. A visitation for Bob will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM Sunday February 10, 2019 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be Alex Alaniz, Isaac Alaniz, Andre Alaniz, Bob Larson, Miguel Chimal, and Terry Biesiada. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery with full military burial rites. Bob was born February 17, 1938 in McAllen, TX a son of Marcelino and Virginia (Gonzalez) Alaniz. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Margarita Villanueva on July 12, 1965 in McAllen. He worked as a meat cutter for Tri-City in Silvis, Geifman Grocery Stores in the Quad-Cities, and finally Eagles Food Market, before retiring with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed being with grandchildren & family, playing his guitar, and upholstery work. He was a avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan; and also a Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a member of Nueva Vida Pentecostal Church in Moline, and also the Meat Cutters Union. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 53 years, Margie; children: Roberto Alaniz Jr., of Los Angeles, CA; Ruben (Chris) Alaniz of Selma, TX; Eddie Alaniz of Silvis; Ellie (Bob) Larson of Moline; 8-grandchildren: Lori, Hope, Autumn, Alex, Isaac, Andre (Madison), Talia (Danny), and Selena (Parker); 4-great-grandchildren: Micah, Aliyah, Sophia, Nadia; 3 brothers: Arturo (Rosa) Alaniz, Rudy Alaniz and Homer (Amalia) Alaniz all of McAllen, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Raul, and sister, Irma. Condolences may be expressed online at www.vanhoe.com
