Funeral services for Roger D. Hickenbottom, 66, Moline, are 11 AM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Roger died Wednesday, March 17, 2010. He was born September 24, 1943 in Fairfield, IA, the son of Joseph and Minnie (Gohn) Hickenbottom. He married Judith Vest on August 3, 1974 in East Moline. Roger served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1993 from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline after 30 years of service. In 1994 he went to work as a courier for Metropolitan Lab until 2006. He then worked at the East End Boulder's Club in Moline until 2009 when his health began failing. Roger had driven stock car #505 in the 1960's in Davenport and in Sterling, IL. He was an avid NASCAR Fan, attending many races and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Roger loved spending time with friends and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Trenton race at the BMX Track in East Moline. Roger was a member of the Moline Vikings, East End Boulder's Club and the Friends Circle Club. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Judy, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Shane Jackson, Moline, step-son Tim Vest of East Moline, grandchildren; Donald Vest, Chase Harmoning, Seth Jackson, Trenton Jackson and Tessa Jackson, brother and sister-in-law Donald and Beverly Hickenbottom, Fairfield, sister Thelma Daily, Sigourney, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant son David Duane, his parents, a sister Lois and his brother Fern.
