Rev. Roland Dean Bechtel, 72, of East Moline, IL, went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Saturday at Foursquare Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Pastor was born December 18, 1941 in Fremont, NE, the son of Royal and Ruth Sutton Bechtel. He graduated from Mt. Vernon Bible College, Mt. Vernon, OH. He married Rev. Alice Joy Bechtel, whom he met at Mt. Vernon Bible College, June 15, 1965, in Mt. Vernon. He served in Olean, NY, Toledo, OH, Beloit WI, Elgin, IL, and had been Pastor of Foursquare Church, East Moline, since 1984. He was a chaplain at Illini Hospital, Silvis, for 30 years. His heart was dedicated to missions abroad and had participated in many over the years. He enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and decorating the church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rev. Alice Bechtel, East Moline; daughters, Christina (Steve) Lawrick, East Moline, and Lori Bechtel, East Moline; sons, Rev. Roland "Doug" (Sophorn) Bechtel, Moline, and John Bechtel, East Moline; grandchildren, Kayla, Kaleb, Kaylan, Hannah, and Grace; brother, Leonard (Esther) Bechtel. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara and Maxine; brothers, Sonny and Gene. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foursquare Church, East Moline.
